Why is Larry Wolfe Blogging?

Hello, I’m Larry Wolfe, Director, Technology Deployment for REM Services, Inc. in Charlotte, North Carolina.  I’ve been with the Robert E. Mason family of companies since March 1, 1985.  I’ve worked with instrumentation and process controls most of my career (I started as a project engineer at Fiber Industries, Inc. Salisbury, NC in July of 1974, transferred to Charlotte into a corporate engineering group in September of 1976, was promoted to Engineering Group Leader in 1981, took an assignment as Instrumentation / Controls Lead on a major capital project in 1983).

For much of my time with the Robert E. Mason family of companies I have assisted customers in the specification, and selection of process control equipment.  In many, many cases multiple systems

(or process interface functions) have been a part of the projects.  The integration of these systems required that someone verify that they would work together as desired and expected.  Many times that integration occurred at checkout, commissioning and startup.  Some times that was painful and was the cause of delays in the completion of the project.

These experiences led me to recommend that we utilize the demonstration equipment that we have to do enough of the integration prior to project checkout to confirm the system integration concept.  For REM Services, Inc. the Proof of Concept System was born.

Over the years, the REM Services, Inc. Proof of Concept System has been used by customers and REM personnel to better understand the integration obstacles.  Having the capability to try different hardware and software implementation techniques allowed the most effective integration strategy to be developed.

So, with this background what to I hope to do with this blog?  Well, I hope to share some of the experiences we have had in integrating system solutions.  Some will be very general others will be very specific.  I will also share my experiences with Emerson’s AMS product and describe how it can be utilized to improve the utilization of device product functionality, productivity, consistency, safety, etc.

I’m looking forward to sharing, but I hope you will share as well.  Please let me hear from you on what your experiences are related to the topics posted.  Thanks!!  LMW
